Just curious as to what a good balance is for a blog. Some people are content driven while others are photo and video driven. I obviously want to showcase my writing, but I want my blog to be interesting...Any thoughts...Thanks!
What's a good balance for a blog, i.e. travel writing, pictures, etc...?

You'll want to showcase your writing, but make sure you have graphics, videos, and podcasts. Too much content can be boring and too much media can be over the top. Check out your favorite blog and TWE to see what others are doing.

Hi Richard - I do see a lot of sites that are at one extreme or the other. It can sometimes be a difficult balance to achieve.
I think the internet has caused many of us to have a shorter attention span, and the result is that if what we're reading doesn't really grab our interest, then we don't stick around long enough to finish reading it. That's where really engaging photos and videos can help, but you still need good quality content, even if it's not a large quantity of content.
It's just my opinion, but from what I've seen what seems to work best is to get to the point with your text - give people what they came to your site for, and use the photos to illustrate your point(s). Videos can stand alone with just some commentary, but you still need to give people a compelling reason to click on "Play" and stay around long enough to watch the video.
Whatever you do, don't use "auto" playing video (or audio) as MOST people hate that and will leave a site quickly, and don't make your videos so long that people get bored - if it's not extremely interesting, keep it short.

For Man Tripping - http://www.mantripping.com - I try to use one, max three graphical media per article. This includes podcasts, videos, and photos. Extra photos I usually send over to my photo gallery.
This equation works on small to mid-sized articles i.e. 350-700 words.
When I started my site it was purely a blog and I didn't do any media in it, just text. I quickly became convinced that you MUST have at least one image per article to draw the eye.
