Are there any words you could avoid using? I read somewhere not to use the word "if" because it's best just to make a statement such as, "...Next time use these five tips to increase traffic" instead of saying, "...if you want to increase traffic, blah, blah, blah. I think I recall reading to avoid overusing "there and because." Just curious.
What words could you avoid using in a travel article?

Great question. I read an article a few months ago that writers could avoid using words such as: because, a lot, sort of, kind of, like, azure, there, and I. The person that wrote the article stated that it's a good idea to avoid beginning a sentence with "if." Instead of saying, "...If you want to be a travel writer take a class," say, "...Take a travel writing class to launch your travel writing career." The latter sentence states what you could do in a "matter-of-fact" tone.

You should also think about phrases to avoid using, those that are considered "cliche" because of over-use......here is a good selection of travel writing cliches to avoid from the grumpy traveler...
