Actually, many people have had success from social media. I think the key is NOT to "bombard" people every hour on the hour with information. It's like using email marketing. You can go overboard and lose people because you're giving them WAY too much information, like everyday. I've opted out of things because of this.
Many experts believe that spending at least 40 hours per month can help increase traffic to your website and increase business. For example, maybe you spend an hour on Twitter, 15 minutes on Facebook, 15 minutes on LinkedIn, etc... Hope this helped.
