I'd like my website to have a more "sophisticated" look. The free templates are all right, but I can't customize them. How much would it cost to have a template tweaked or website designed? Thanks.

It depends on what you want done. I received quotes between $500 - $1200. I didn't contact the designer of the template I use, but I may get in touch with him. Also, ask if the designer will provide "mockups" or specs. Two of the designers who quoted me didn't offer any mockups or specs for me to look at to help me make a decision. It's like graphic design. Most people give you a "spec" so you can have an idea of what your design will look like.
Contact the designer of the template and ask if they can revise it. Give him/her the details, ask for a quote, and if they provide mockups or specs. Good luck....

Hi BillieJean,
Another option is paying for a pre-designed templates. You may find that many of the designs have a better design and more options built in. Havind said that, I was very happy with my designer, but I did spend $2000 to have her make it from scratch. Here is the finished product. http://travelwritelive.com.
I might also suggest that even with a finished product from a designer, you will likely want to make additional changes. It is a good idea to learn how Wordpress works and some html. I promise you, it is not that difficult. If I could learn so can you.
Good luck and happy travels.

Thanks for the advice! I know some HTML but all of that language and programming looks Greek to me. I'd prefer to focus on my writing and leverage my time that way. This is why I'd like to find a web designer. Maybe I'll ask my sister if any of the grandkids know web design...
