Great question...I think what we are seeing in the world is proof positive that "old ways" of thinking are being challenged. It's one thing to be unified, however, we must be careful of trying to create a "oneness" where people are forced to give up their cultures. I think the world would be a boring place if we all had the same culture, dressed the same, spoke the same, etc...
Travel would definitely be boring. I cringe when I go to the UK and see Burger King or McDonalds. However, I do like the fact that they now have Subway. Ok, I'm a little biased. At least Subway is a healthier alternative the majority of the time. But, I do like enjoy tasting the local dishes. Haggis was not that bad...

What a great video! It does make thing about the state of the world and how travel will change or remain the same. Maybe all of us need to take a "spiritual" trek. You do not have to go to India, you can start in your backyard.

Interesting question. I agree that if everyone dressed the same, ate the same, etc...the world would be a boring place. Variety is not a bad thing.
With all of this talk about going green and saving the planet who knows what will happen with travel. Perhaps someone will design and create a fuel efficient airplane. I enjoy travel and do not plan on giving it up. I do my best to be mindful of the places I visit. I know and understand that I am a foreigner in a foreign country. I'm always respectful and do my best to taste the local food and understand the culture.

This is a great question. No matter where I traveled to, I always considered myself a guest. Too bad we cannot just get along...things would be much better. It comes down to good ol' fashioned respect for one another. The world would definitely be a boring place if we all shared the same culture

This makes me think of a great quote that I heard not too long ago, which keeps me interested in travel writing:
"The World is a great book, of which they who never stir from home read only a page."

I'll continue to travel, when I can. It's kind of tough with because I'm in school. I think as long you show respect for people and their country, they'll do the same.

It helps to understand the other person as well; as human beings, we all have this deep-seated desire to be loved and to feel appreciated. Show appreciation to a 6'6" bodybuilder from Russia, and he'll likely return the favour.
