Do you have any advice for those of us who would like to travel solo?

Good for you! Solo travel can be exhilarating. First, remember that you're the foreigner when you travel to other countries. Second, know a little bit about the history of the area where you will be staying. Third, go with the flow. Finally, bring some currency with you -- in case you need to catch a taxi, bus, or train.

Solo travel is a great experience. You get to do what you want to do and you can change your plans
Be open-minded and do not be afraid to try the local cuisine if you're traveling to a foreign country. Also, be aware of your surroundings -- just as you would in your own city.

Make sure you bring what you need...I know how the ladies like to bring their entire closet and hair products (girly stuff)

Hey, I wanted to share this link from Brave New Travler Albert Einstein: “I Am Truly A Lone Traveler”. It's a great article...

Thanks for the link....

Excellent article, reveals a new side to Einstein. Personally, I can vision myself being a solo traveller for quite a few trips, so any extra advice (which hasn't already being mentioned) is very much appreciated. Take care!

I enjoyed the article as well. When it comes to solo travel, I think you have to go for it. Many people do not travel because of what others will say -- especially family and friends. As long as you use common sense, you'll be fine.
If you're traveling to a foreign country, I would bring a guidebook or two. I would definitely learn to speak the language and bring a pocket translator or language book. I found that even if you stumble over the words, people will appreciate that you attempted to communicate in their language. Also, you may find a travel guide before you leave. This way you'll have a contact person when you arrive in the country. One more thing, make sure you are aware of the cultural norms. Women may have to cover up in some cultures. If you are not open to this then I would not travel to the foreign country.
Happy travels!

hi all,
I'm planning on going to peru, for inspiration, and I was thinking about writing while I'm there, but I'm not sure if I should go by myself or should I go with my boyfriend that is trying to convince me that we should got together what do you think?

Wow this post scares me. I was literally just at Barnes & Noble checking out a Lonely Planet book on Peru and was skimming through it. I got bored so started reading about security for females and such who were planning on a solo trip. The book mostly mentioned that traveling alone as a female can be dangerous almost anywhere but just take typical security measures.
I'm thinking of planning the same trip with my girlfriend in April or August but have a feeling that April is to close to the rainy season.
I'd be interested to hear about your planning and such so please reach out to me!
