Hi,
I am using a plugin for social icons under my blog posts, but I now realise that the Twitter icon I have is not actually doing the retweet-thingy.
I have noticed on other peoples sites a retweet icon at the top of their posts, with a number indicating how often the post was retweeted.
I am assuming this feature is a plugin. Can someone tell me which one it is, and if it is a good idea to use it?

That is TweetMeme (at least that is the most common one everyone uses)....you can get it here:

And YES I think it's not only a good idea, I think it's crucial - if you make it very easy for people to retweet your posts, more of them will do so. When I read a post I like, if they have a retweet button I use it. If they don't, then often I dont' have the time to do a manual tweet of it.
Do be sure to pay attention to the plugins settings because you want to be sure that you change if from the default RT @tweetmeme to RT @YOURtwittername (put your twitter name in instead of theirs).

I think a lot of people will be interested in following your story as you trace your family roots, especially those that are interested in history and what life was like way back in the 9th century (I know I am).....I'm looking forward to reading more!

I know my blog niche is not really travel related, so it seems a bit out of place on this site, but I will have to travel a lot to find out more about my ancestor. So sooner or later travel related stuff will get in.
I am planning a trip to Cologne, Germany, where apparently under the present-day Gothic cathedral are still remains visible of the old cathedral in which my ancestor studied. I was rather thrilled to discover that, as most of the 9th century stuff is gone.
