I enjoy using WordPress but sometimes it takes me more than one hour to upgrade because I'm so careful not to mess it up. Is there an 'automatic update' and does it work? Thanks.
Is there an 'automatic update' for WordPress?

Yes there is. It will be located under Tools or under Dashboard. Make sure you deactivate your plugins and backup your website.

Definitely take the time to make a backup first, of both your database (that houses all your posts, pages, comments, etc.) by using a plugin like wp-dbmanager and also it's good to keep a backup of your "theme" files too.
AND be sure to do as Rebecca says and deactivate ALL your plugins before upgrading! Often plugins are not updated as quickly as they should be when a new version of WP comes out, and occasionally conflicts can cause problems - so it would be wise to check out all of your plugins FIRST to be sure that they'll work with the latest version of WP before you attempt to upgrade.
But as long as you're prepared then the automatic upgrade process is painless.
