Ok, my friend uses Linkreferral (I saw something about it on the forum) to drive traffic to her website. Someone reviewed her website which is a blog. The commenter remarked that no one will read a "home page" that has a bunch of text on it. But that's what a blog is. When you visit blogs, the "blog" is what shows up not a landing page. Should a blog have a landing page? Any thoughts on this...
Is it good to have a landing page for your blog?

I personally think that "landing pages" were the big thing a few years ago in web development; however trends change.
In the era we live in, people what information as quick as possible (at least to my beliefs) so a landing page really keeps a person one step away from the information they are looking for as they will need to click through to your blog.

I agree. Besides, a blog is a blog. When I visit blogs, I am not taken to a landing page.

A landing page seems like another name for a splash page. Requiring readers to go through an extra page to get what they want really isn't a good idea. If someone can't figure out what your blog is about by looking at it, just redesign the blog.

I would disagree with the person who commented on your friend's blog - that "no one will read a home page that has a bunch of text on it".......people will read what interests them and whatever it was that brought them to her blog originally should, in theory, be of interest to them.
I do believe it's good to present information clearly and concisely, and whenever you can use photos to illustrate the point (because people do like illustrations as well as text).
But Gary is right - a "landing" page is nothing more than whatever page they "land" on, and how it *should be* structured depends on the purpose of the site. If they are there to get information and you get in their way of finding that with a Splash Page or Squeeze Page, people will leave your site. If they can't find the information quickly, redesign your blog so that they can.
