I'd enjoy blogging but I'd like to write for a travel publication. Any advice on how I could do that. Will my blog posts be acceptable portfolio pieces? I've written a few articles here and there but mostly for myself and they're online. Thanks.
How to transition from blogs to travel publications?

Begin to write about your travels. Conduct interviews the next time you travel. Interview the locals and get their perspective about tourists and tourism. Interview a hotel manager. You could write restaurant reviews, narratives, etc...Submit your articles to local and online publications. Hope this helps...

@SarahQT - Rebecca has some great suggestions, and a really good blog post that will be up on TWE tomorrow about writing Query Letters - be sure to read it!
The best way to get that ball rolling is to just jump in and start pitching articles (using a well written query letter of course) and eventually you'll get something published.
Be sure that you're researching the publications thoroughly, to ensure that what you want to send them is right for their audience, based on what they've previously published. And be sure that you've read (and are following) their submission guidelines.
Good luck!
