It depends on what I am writing. When writing my blog I try to write a post in about an hour, but sometimes it takes a bit longer if I have to do specific research.
When writing books I usually set everything aside and write as much as I can. Then I usually go by words and not time - so 1000 words before lunch and 1000 words after lunch. This usually amounts to about 3 hours per 1000 words.
When writing a book I set myself strict deadlines. It seems to work for me, but I know that other writers don't do that.I think it comes down to what feels best for you. If it works, keep doing it. If you get demotivated, change your routine and find something that works better.

It depends on the project. I keep telling myself I'm going to write for an hour on one of my projects but it hasn't happened (I need to schedule it for the weekend). Lately, I've been feeling 'blah' about writing. I think I need a break or a vacation
Some writers recommend writing at least for one hour every day. If you can write more that's even better. Create a schedule if that will help you write more. Good luck!

I have to agree - it really depends on what your project is..... writing a book is so much different than writing for freelance periodical assignments.
If I'm writing an assignment, I like to write in the mornings after I've had a cup of coffee and my mind is clear - I'm also more creative in the morning, and words just seem to flow easier. So I write until lunch, then in the afternoons I spend time catching up on other things (like our Forum), staying current with social media connections, or working on editing tasks.
I do think that if you go through 'blah' periods where the writing just isn't flowing, you should do as Rebecca suggests and just take a break from it - use the time to just 'organize' your thoughts into outlines or ideas, but don't push the writing. Spend time away from your desk, or even reading. Creativity ebbs and flows, so eventually it will return.
