Been thinking about blogging lately. We put a lot of time and effort into our blog posts. How do we keep copies of them if we shut down our blog? I don't write my blogs in Word, I write them in WordPress. Should I be making copies of all my posts? Is it better to write them in Word and then copy/paste into WordPress? Please advise. Thanks!
How do you retain a copy of your blog posts if you shut down your blog?

It's probably best just to keep manual MS Word documents of them as all of your Wordpress posts are stored in a database table that will make almost no sense to you if you were to navigate to it and open it up.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably do that and recommend my friends do the same thing.

I agree with Bryan - it's good to keep a text file or Word .doc file of your posts.
You can (and should) use a plugin like wp-dbmanager to backup your Wordpress Database, but if you don't go forward with another wordpress blog in the future, the database backup won't help you.
I use a plain text editor to write my posts, then I copy & paste them into WP, and do some "styling" (bold, italics, etc).....then I copy (from the HTML tab NOT the visual tab) the same post back to my text editor for permanent saving - that way I have all the HTML code for they styling included if I ever need to copy it back to WP, or to an HTML page.
There are also a couple of great tools - for Windows users you can try Windows LiveWriter (it's free) which I'm told is pretty good - it lets you compose and style your posts on your computer, then it connects to your WP install and publishes the post for you when you're ready. For Mac users there is MarsEdit which is great, but not free (it's $29.95). MarsEdit lets you manage multiple blogs easily, I don't know if LiveWriter does since I don't use a Windows computer, but since it's free it's worth trying for those that do.
