My name is Nancy (like *that* wasn't obvious) and I'm a struggling writer and photographer but to make ends meet I work at a hotel doing the house laundry. Sound like fun? It isn't. I enjoy reading, writing, history, genealogy, photography (of course), movies (any genre but horror), and listening to music (mostly classic rock). My son, Jimmy, is a Marine and is stationed in Japan.

Hi Nancy - welcome to our Forum! I know quite a few of our forum members who are also struggling writers, many work at other jobs but keep writing as much and as often as they can......the key is to not give up your dream. When you're passionate about something - like writing - then determination and perseverance will get you where you want to be, and people will hear your passion in your words.
I hope we'll be able to help you when you have questions!

Welcome Nancy! I agree with Trisha.....I know quite a few writers who maintain part-time jobs other than writing (and a few that have full-time non-writing jobs), and more who only work at writing because they have a spouse who supports them........but I also know a few writers who are making a living at it, and they inspire me to keep going. So don't give up your dream, just keep working at improving your skills.
Also, don't forget that a lot of travel writers are doing well by writing about where they live as well as short "weekend getaways" within a driving distance - those types of stories are fairly easy to sell to local newspapers and magazines....good luck!

Sounds like we have a lot in common. Would love to discuss our angle of photography with you some time.
