I just got back from a road trip and saw a couple of hitch hikers. I didn't stop but it made me wonder if anyone in the forum has hitch hiked? I haven't but I guess it would be an experience you wouldn't forget

I to saw a couple of hitchhikers when I was on the road. I never had a desire to hitchhike but I know some travel writers hitchhike when they're in other countries. It makes it more of an adventure

A few times when I was in high-school and then again just after, I did some hitchhiking to get around.
For the most part I still believe that it's safe to hitchhike unless you're a female traveling alone, then I don't think it's wise. But for guys or couples the likelihood of trouble is very low.
I do occasionally stop and pick up someone who is hitchhiking, but it really depends on the situation and time of day, how much other traffic there is, etc.
