I found this website http://www.press-release-writing.com/sample-press-release.htm. They give you a sample of a press release. It's not about travel or travel writing, but it's good to use as a guideline.

You could use a press release service and distribution. Some of these services can be costly. Check out http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/index.php. The cheapest is $49 for an enhanced distribution plan called "Search Engine Plus." You could register as a "Publisher," "Journalist," or "Advertiser" to create and publish your press release for free. Stay tuned to Travel-Writers-Exchange.com for more information on press releases.

Press releases are a good idea...I don't think PR Web is a free service.

Press releases are a great idea. It's even better if you can partner with an organization and have them release it for you; it's all about contacts. You may want to check out PR Web and see what they have to offer and http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Press-Release. Good luck!
