International Food Wine & Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA)
http://www.ifwtwa.org

International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA), a nonprofit organization for culinary, wine and travel journalists and other industry professionals, is accepting donations of travel packages, cruises and products or services for auctions and drawings to fund its annual award program for professional journalists and emerging writers.

October 20, 2010, Diamond Bar, CA – Donating a weekend travel package at your resort, hotel or vacation home is a great way to support IFWTWA's efforts to recognize outstanding talent in the craft of travel, food and wine writing. How? A donations not only funds IFWTWA's annual Excellence Awards program, but also is a great way to promote properties, services or products and gain media exposure in the process.

According to Maralyn Hill, President of IFWTWA, “Our goal for the annual Excellence Awards program for journalists is to assist food, wine and travel writers in improving their skills and marketability. In addition to honing their writing and marketing skills, we also stress the importance of writers taking responsibility for media coverage for their hosts and sponsors, whether that be in print or on-line, whenever appropriate.”

IFWTWA is acquiring extraordinary donations to auction on E-Bay and to use in a drawing to raise funds for its annual Excellence Awards program. Every dollar raised will be used to pay for the program and its promotion.

Here are a few suggested donations, but donors are encouraged to come up with creative donation ideas of their own:

A two or three night stay for two with dinner
An airfare-hotel package for three or more nights
An adventure tour package with airfare and lodging
A cruise
Dinner for two or more
A case of wine
Culinary products
Spa products
Digital cameras
Travel products

“Donating whatever showcases your products or services or an experience at your property would be the perfect drawing or auction item,” says Allen Cox, IFWTWA board member and chair of the Excellence Awards program. “Most packages or items are appropriate for this auction. Every donation helps a great deal.”

What do donors get besides the satisfaction of assisting winning journalists on their career paths? In return for a donation, IFWTWA will promote the donation and donating company with press releases throughout various media outlets, on the IFWTWA website, with members and on social networking sites. The donor's public relations firm may provide the press release of the donation package being offered or IFWTWA could write it. Auction items will also be promoted on E-Bay. Donor brand and products, services or properties are prominently promoted in all materials: press releases, social media communications, blog entries, etc. Donors also get their logo displayed on IFWTWA's website as sponsors.

Company's wishing to take advantage of this opportunity by donating a travel package, products or services to this fund-raising drive, or wishing to discuss donation ideas, should notify the contact on this press release no later than December 31, 2010.

“Every donation is very much appreciated,” says Cox. “We couldn't assist these journalists without the generosity of our donors. We make this a win for our award recipients and a win for our donors.”

About IFWTWA: The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) is a global network of journalists who cover the hospitality and lifestyle fields, and the people who promote them.
International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Assoc. (IFWTWA) has developed and launched a program in which travel and tourism professionals worldwide will be awarded an IFWTWA Excellence Award for outstanding achievements in their fields.

October 18, 2010, Diamond Bar, CA – The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) Board of Directors is happy to announce the immediate launch of the organization's new Excellence Awards program. This program is designed to recognize outstanding achievement in all aspects of the travel, tourism, hospitality, culinary, beverage and destination marketing industries.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of being a food, wine and travel writer is recognizing and spreading the word about exceptional talent in the travel and tourism industry,” says Allen Cox, IFWTWA board member and chair of the Excellence Awards program. “Excellence, in this sense, is not necessarily synonymous with luxury, but with outstanding cultural, experiential and environmental education and stewardship.”

IFWTWA regular and student members may nominate industry professionals for Excellence Awards. The nominations will be evaluated by IFWTWA Award Committee members and the Board of Directors. These Excellence Awards will be in the form of professional certificates of recognition signed by the IFWTWA President and the Excellence Award Committee member who evaluated the nomination.

IFWTWA Excellence Awards fall into the following categories:

Culinary Excellence Award – recognizes chefs and other outstanding culinary professionals
Wine/Brew/Other Beverage Excellence Award – recognizes winemakers, brew masters, and others who stand out in the beverage industry
Hospitality Excellence Award – recognizes exceptional and innovative lodging establishments
Tourism Excellence Award – recognizes the best tour guides and companies
Destination Marketing Excellence Award – recognizes the best convention and visitor bureaus, tourism offices, and public relations professionals

In addition, IFWTWA has launched an award program focused on excellence in travel, food and wine journalism: the Journalism Excellence Award (geared for professional journalists) and the Emerging Writer Excellence Award. These annual awards replace IFWTWA's annual Wine, Food and Travel Writer Scholarship Contest. The winners of both awards earn a complimentary one-year membership in IFWTWA, publication in Global Writes (IFWTWA's on-line magazine) and more. In addition, the Journalism Excellence Award recipient wins complimentary attendance at IFWTWA's annual conference; the Emerging Writer Award recipient wins a cash prize.

“When our members discover an innovative chef, a passionate and skilled winemaker, a hotel operator who's found a way to take hospitality to the next level, or a talented food, wine and travel writer, it is our privilege to recognize those achievements and share them with the media and the world,” says Maralyn Hill, President of IFWTWA. “These awards are reserved for the best of the best. We hope every individual or company receiving an IFWTWA Excellence Award views it as a clear message of prestige and honor from a group of seasoned travel, food and wine journalists who experience and write about all aspects of the travel and tourism industry.”

About IFWTWA: The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) is a global network of journalists who cover the hospitality and lifestyle fields, and the people who promote them. In 1956 a group of prominent Frenchmen started rating restaurants. This small group, along with an American, conceptualized an international version of their organization. It became the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association when formally created as a non-profit organization in California in 1981.

Here's a great opportunity for travel writers/bloggers living in the upper northwest US or western Canada (or anywhere else if you can get to Kodiak AK fairly cheaply).....

Each year the Katmai Wilderness Lodge, located on the coast of Katmai National Park & Preserve in Alaska, extends an offer to have TWO (2) travel writers visit their lodge for a complimentary stay.

Interested writers would have to travel to Kodiak, AK on their own nickel, or if you can secure assignment commitments for publication, you might try contacting the Kodiak CVB to see if they can help with airfare.

If you're interested please see http://www.katmai-wilderness.com for more details, and contact Mike O'Connor at 1-800-488-8767 or 907-486-8767
