		<itunes:summary>Many of you will remember Lisa Lambden from my prior interview with her - she's the founder and director of the Travel Channel Academy.

Lisa has launched an exciting new project - one that every travel writer should pay close attention to - called the "New York Video School", and she graciously took time out of her busy day yesterday to let me get the scoop on what it is, and what it means to you.

Why do I think you should pay attention? Because video content is rapidly becoming a requirement for submission to many online travel publications, especially those that are larger media outlets. In short, if you're not producing your own quality travel video content, you're going to get left eating the dust of those travel writers that are.

In the interview, Lisa explains that the New York Video School was launched to take the successful Travel Channel Academy program (face-to-face video production instruction in a classroom setting), bring it to an online environment, and make it accessible to anyone who is looking for a start-to-finish video training course.

A great feature is that NYVS is community-based and highly interactive, offering groups you can join, forums to participate in, and blogs to follow, giving you the opportunity to get (and give) feedback and network with other students and instructors.

In addition to the community aspect, I love the fact that it's super-affordable, you can take only the courses you're interested in, and you can learn at your own pace, on your own time.

Lisa has a great way of explaining it all, so be sure to listen!

Enjoy!

~Trisha

		<itunes:summary>If you're in the Portland Oregon area and listen to KPAM Radio on the weekends, then you may have heard a short interview I did with Pat Boyle.

Pat is one of KPAM's weekday morning anchors who also hosts The Azumano Travel Show, which airs on Saturday mornings with an encore on Sunday mornings.

If you missed it, don't worry! You can listen to the mp3 right here on Travel Writers Exchange!

Pat's weekend travel show primarily covers destinations and various aspects of travel, but last weekend she deviated from their normal format to talk with me about the new FTC Blogger Disclosure Guidelines and the impact they are having on travel writers and travel bloggers.

Like most broadcast radio segments, it's short (only 4 minutes), but Pat asks some great questions and overall I think it's a pretty good interview.

Audio Podcast: Click to Listen

She doesn't hold back with her questions, and I think I gave some insightful answers, but overall it reiterates what I've already blogged about here on TWE, which is that it boils down to just a few really important points:
Be sure that you're disclosing when something you're writing about was given to you or earns you some compensation;
Be sure that your disclosure is clear;
Remember that travelers are relying on you - the travel writer or travel blogger - to provide them with honest and accurate information.  They have a right to know if your opinion is possibly biased.  A clear disclosure helps your credibility;

I truly believe that travelers don't care that you've been on a sponsored media trip in order to write your travel story. What they care about is whether or not you're giving an honest opinion about where you went and what you did (or did not) enjoy about it. Be clear when you do accept press trips, and write an honest critique, not an advertorial, and you'll boost your credibility and gain a reputation as a travel writer or blogger who can be trusted.

~Trisha

Have you changed how you write in response to the new FTC Blogger Disclosure Guidelines?

		<itunes:summary>Over the weekend I had the great pleasure of interviewing Anthony Bianco, also known as "The Travel Tart".

After a couple of technical glitches on my end and an error calculating the time difference between Arizona and Brisbane, Australia (which I finally worked out using an online time zone converter tool) , I finally got an opportunity to chat with this interesting Travel Blogger.

Anthony got started in travel writing by providing some travel articles for an online Australian Family Travel Agency. Having enjoyed the experience, he decided to parlay his writing talent into his own travel blog, which has -- in a short time -- garnered a respectable number of readers of his blog and a sizeable Twitter following, primarily due to his uniquely humorous take on the often funny side of travel and travel destinations.

Have a listen (and maybe a few laughs)!

Meet Anthony Bianco:

Anthony's Biography:

The Travel Tart (sometimes known as Anthony Bianco) is a self-proclaimednbsp;travel addict who will find any feeble excuse to go traveling.

Anthonynbsp;discovered he really enjoyed traveling the world when he was sent to anbsp;former war zone for work - Kosovo - as his first venture outside of
Australia and New Zealand. nbsp;This created a habit of visiting places thatnbsp;most package tourists avoid like the plague. nbsp;He has since travelled tonbsp;almost 40 countries over six continents - nowhere near enough!

While travelling, he likes risking his life by utilising barely road-worthynbsp;forms of transport such as African mini-buses, suicidal Cairo cabs, andnbsp;flatulent camels. nbsp;

His foray into the travel writing world happened by accident - his dodgynbsp;friends thought it was a good idea to convert hisnbsp;humorousnbsp;travel emailsnbsp;into something more substantial - like articles and books.

Anthony likes to write about the funny, offbeat, and downright strangenbsp;aspects of world travel today, which can be seen on his website atnbsp;http://www.thetraveltart.com. nbsp;He also guest blogs for other sites if people are silly enough to take up his offer. nbsp;</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>For those that don't already know, IFWTWA stands for the International Food, Wine, and Travel Writers Association. It is a global network of people involved in the hospitality and lifestyle industries and the writers, bloggers, and journalists who promote them by informing others about them.

This past week I had the great pleasure of interviewing Maralyn Hill, president of the Association, who graciously agreed to squeeze me into her busy travel and writing schedule, and to answer many of the questions our members have been asking.

The interview runs around 18 minutes, and is full of interesting information about the IFWTWA and why you should join - if you're not already a member, you should definitely give it a listen!

Enjoy!

		<itunes:summary>We've had a LOT of inquiries from our travel writers about the Travel Channel Academy (the travel-focused digital film school designed to turn you into a Travel Journalist in 4 days).... so here it is, as promised, our recorded interview with Lisa Lambden, founder and driving force behind the the Travel Channel Academy (read her full biography below - she's one very impressive lady!).

It's a great interview - Lisa explains exactly who the Travel Channel Academy is designed for and why you'll want to take the course!

We're looking forward to following up with Lisa when she launches her newest venture, New York Video School (slated for February 2009) - be sure to sign up for our Weekly Recap so you don't miss that interview when it's posted.

Enjoy!
