I was thinking about my strengths and weaknesses lately. I must admit that I mostly focus on the negative versus the positive. I think it would be a good idea to focus on what went right versus what went wrong. So...if you get a rejection letter from a publisher focus on the feedback (if any) and try again. If you get published, ask yourself what you did right and duplicate it. What do you think?
Writing: focusing on the positive versus the negative.

Great question. When you receive a rejection letter from a publisher, focus on the writing opportunities you have right now. If the editor gives you feedback, take it and apply it to your writing. Life's too short to focus on the negative. There may be a reason that your writing was not accepted. Perhaps your style of writing or your article pitch was not a good fit. Don't dwell on it, move forward to the next project!

You have to develop a tough skin to be a writer. It's the only profession that requires you to be both sensitive and tough. I was assigned an editor for a book I had written who was totally incompatible for the story which eventually didn't get published.I was disappointed at the time, but now I think it was a gift.
I was totally focussed on getting the story published while he was focussed on refining the story, In retrospect, what he said then has come true even if I didn't want to hear it at the time. Maybe the story needs to take another shape? There are many ways of telling a story and I think the trick is in there somewhere.
