I would like to know why I need a niche? I have different travel interests. Does this mean I have to have a blog for all of my interests? Sounds like a lot of work. My goal is to NOT work that hard -- would like to do more living.
Why do I really need a niche?

Well, it's good to research all of your niches first. It's great that you have many interests. Doing research will help you narrow down the niche that you can monetize. Although, some people like Howie Schwartz say that you could go after niches that are competitive. Who knows!
Anyway, once you've finished your research start working on your website. You can drive traffic to your site via keywords, link backs, etc...

A niche will set you a part from other websites. If you have time, you could have multiple websites since you have multiple interests. I wouldn't stress yourself out...life's too short.

Yeah, the work that you have to do in the beginning is cumbersome. You must research your niche market and the keywords. Look at other sites and see what they've got going on. Once you "drill" down your niche, it will become easier. This way you can focus on the website and your target audience. If you don't define your niche, you could confuse people. They will not understand what you website is about. Was this helpful? Hope so.

Yeah having a niche market helps. It takes some work in the beginning which can be grueling. It's something how business has expanded to the internet.

The idea behind having a niche is that it means less competition, making it easier for you to stand out from the crowd and to get traffic to your travel blog. If you just write about all things related to travel, then you're competing against well over a million other websites, many of which are very good at what they do, and have been around a long time. That would make it very difficult for you to compete.
You should ideally choose a niche about which you know a great deal, so that you are an 'expert' in your chosen niche. That way you'll have less competition, and with time and effort you can make your site better than the sites you are competing against for 'eyeballs'.
