I'd like to use a domain name but I'm not sure if it's taken. Are there any free websites where I could check my domain name? Thanks!
Where can I check to see if a domain name is taken?

Google "domain check" and you'll receive a ton links. I use http://www.checkdomain.com to check domain names. It's free. All you do is type in the domain name you'd like to use and you'll receive a message stating whether or not the domain is taken.

HI Ralph
The site Rebecca suggested is a good one. There are a couple of things to keep in mind though when checking for domains:
1. If a domain name is available, and you think you may want it, don't delay in registering it. There are a number of automated 'bots' on the net that watch domain-checking activity, and they will snap up domains that are checked but not registered - then when you go to get them at a later time or date, they are no longer available and you'll have to buy the domain for more money - sometimes much more - than the small registration fee that you'd have paid originally;
2. If a domain is not available, that doesn't mean that it's not for sale - sometimes they are. It can't hurt to contact the domain owner and inquire about purchasing it if you really have your heart set on it.
Good luck!
