I've been hearing a lot of chatter about people revolting against Facebook at the end of May -- something about privacy changes and a movie and comments made by one of the founders. I haven't been on Facebook in awhile so I guess I'm out of loop. Does anyone have information on this? Thanks for sharing...
What's going on with Facebook and privacy?

The movie "The Social Network" is based on Ben Mezrich's book "The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal." The movie tells a tantalizing, steamy tale about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg that involves lies, intrigue, and sex.
The buzz about the privacy issue is based on remarks that Mark allegedly made about how people were so stupid to hand over their personal information within a "blink of an eye." There's chatter on the internet about the number of porn sites that have popped up on Facebook along with other "seedy" people. Some people already deleted their accounts. A parent's group on Facebook is warning parents to take down pictures of their kids because supposedly a group of pedophiles are posing as a parents group. I'll never understand why people put pictures of their kids on the internet in the first place.
Hope this helps!

Take a look at this blog by writer David Hewson to know more of what's been going on:

Mike,
Since I started my temp full-time job, I haven't missed being on Facebook. In fact, I really don't go on it as much as I used to do when I was working at home. It's been nice to have face-to-face conversations with "real people."

I personally feel that the whole Facebook privacy issue has been blown out of proportion by the media. When should we ever feel safe putting personal information on the Internet? Facebook has/still does offer privacy controls which might not be the easiest for some to set up. They've even streamlined the privacy configuration after this media debacle...
While some people are leaving Facebook at the end of May, just remember that they only account for like .00000086% of the Facebook population. A paltry percentage if anything...

I agree with Bryan - the concept of safety or privacy on the internet is just an illusion......I only use Facebook for business (TWE) but still I'm cautious about what I put out there......
Really the only issue I have with Facebook is that when they make changes to how their privacy controls work, they don't do a good job of announcing or explaining it, and I've heard from some people that their settings were put back to some "default" (more 'open') settings that they would not have elected given the opportunity.....so I regularly check my settings to be sure they are what I want.
I do agree with Rebecca that parents should NOT be putting any information about their kids out there at all - there's just no need for it......not unless they are maintaining a site or Facebook page that is ONLY accessible by family members and very close friends.

I changed all of my privacy settings on my personal profile (doubled checked they were saved) and deleted applications (I only had a few -- No Farmville) after I re-read the privacy policy regarding applications. I have two fan pages which are for my freelance writing and teen life coaching.
I do find it entertaining that Mark (founder of Facebook) would call its users "complete morons" for giving up their privacy rights, brag about what he can do with the information, and what he will do with it. Our systems in America are crumbling and you never know what could happen. Americans could finally wake up and get so ticked off they'll start another revolution
