I recently heard about WordPress Direct. I'm not sure what it is. Is this associated with WordPress.com and WordPress.org? What exactly is it? Thanks.

I did a little digging on WordPress Direct. They "scour" the internet looking for content for your site from articles to videos. I found "conflicting" information on the cost. On WordPress Direct's website it states that you can "test" it for free with up to 3 blogs and then you have the option to pay a membership fee. An article on Squidoo claims that you can have up to 3 blogs for FREE without paying a cent. Here's the website for WordPress Direct, check it out.

WordPress Direct is simply a method of "auto generating" a website and all of it's content, without your intervention. It pulls the content from other online sources. It allegedly guarantees no "duplicate content", but I don't see how it can make that guarantee - it would be impossible to ensure that the content it scrapes from other sources isn't also on other unrelated websites. Does it work? Yes. Is it a good idea? In my opinion, definitely NOT. But that depends on your own personal goal(s) for your website.
If you want to become an established travel writer (or freelance writer of any genre), then you simply MUST write your own content. Otherwise, you're nothing more than a hack publisher of other people's content, which doesn't make YOU look good to potential employers, Editors or Publishers, and doesn't establish YOUR reputation as a writer.
However if all you want to do is throw together a site on which you HOPE people will click on your ads (and believe me there are millions of sites out there that are nothing more than that), then by all means give it a try. Just don't expect to get any writing assignments or work from it.
