It's sure been quite some time since I posted. Been busy with the grandkids. Would like to get a new camera, one of those digital ones. They say to look for one that is good quality and has a reasonable pixel. What's the minimum pixel needed for a camera in order for it to take good photos?
What is the minimum pixel needed for a digital camera?

Hey Curly,
I personally like a camera that has 5px or higher, but that's just me.

Hi curly - I've been learning a bunch about digital cameras lately since I've decided I think I'd prefer being a photo-journalist, rather than a writer......here is what I have learned:
It really depends on what you're going to be taking photos OF and how you intend to use them.....for example, if you want to take lots of "action" types of shots of your grandkids, then you should be more focused on finding a camera with a fast write-to-card time and a good optical zoom lens. If you're going to be taking lots of photos for magazines or newspapers, then you do want as many megapixels as you can afford because that will give you higher-resolution photos that they will need. If you are going to submit your photos mostly to online magazines, then you can get by with less megapixels and put your money into a camera that has a good range of zoom (from real close up shots to good faraway shots) and features like image stabilization, face recognition, etc. So first you should decide WHAT the camera will be doing, then go talk to someone at a camera store - a REAL camera store, not just the local walmart or discount electronics store - and spend time talking to them, they should be able to help you pick out a camera that is exactly what you need at a price you can afford.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the great advice. I never thought about getting a zoom lens. I have been thinking about investing in a tripod. I'd like to take pictures of the grand kids as well as "action" nature (birds flying, dolphins swimming, etc...). I'll be headed over to the camera store some time this week.
