Any idea on what you can do to promote your travel writing other than social media and buying ad space. I'm open to ideas no matter how "off-the-wall" they seem
What can you do differently to promote your travel writing?

I'll consider social media only as Facebook, Twitter, etc..., for my response. While those are 'direct' ways to promote your travel writing there are other ways to get your name out there. My favorite method is to 'guest post' on other blogs. This helps in many ways such as increasing your network of travel bloggers as well as getting your name out to other readers. This also helps to build trust from visitors to your website once they realize your work has been accepted by other sites (example: http://www.tourfolio.com/about/). I do this by listing articles that I've submitted (and were accepted).

People mention guest posting a lot on TWE. I'll have to carve out time for that...busy with other projects. Thanks for the website, I'll take a look at it in awhile...Later!

Excellent suggestion Bryan - I agree that guest blogging is a great way to promote your travel writing, and it's beneficial for both the blogger and the hosting blog.
@metrocity1 - I would only add that I do think it's important to choose relevant blogs to approach about submitting a guest post - you want to be sure that you can provide something that will be valuable to the readers of the blog you want to be published on, and it should be on a topic about which you're knowledgeable.
Other ways to promote your travel writing include getting active in writer's forums and online groups - be sure that links to your site are in your signature, and that you're posting helpful information whenever possible, as forum admins don't like forum spam (similar to comment spam, where you leave ambiguous posts like "great topic" just to get your signature out there).
Once you get the ball rolling other opportunities will present themselves - just keep working at it!
