I'd like to take up photography, but I would like my photos to standout and tell a story on their own. Does anyone have travel photography techniques they'd like to share? Thanks.
What are some different photography techniques?

Well, you could take "close-ups" of people. For example, if you notice a person with vibrant blue or green eyes, take a close up. It will be a stunning photo. Perhaps you could shoot in black and white. It can be cliched, but sometimes a photo stands out more in black and white.

Shoot a lot of photos and try to figure out why they are bad or good.
Look at a lot of photos with a critical eye and try to figure out how they did it and see if you can replicate it.
That is the secret. Take 10,000 photos with a constant eye towards improvement and you will get better.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll be taking a lot of photos...better stock up on memory cards

You shouldn't need that many memory cards. I only have 2 and have taken around 60,000 photos in the last 3 years. Just download them to your computer on a regular basis.

Photography techniques for better picture are a combination of science and art.
Both can be, and need to be learnt.
I realised this as I have to submit good quality photographs along with my travel articles for better saleability.
Cheers,
