My dashboard keeps reminding me that there is a new WP update.
Is this a usefull and recommended update, or shall I ignore it?

I generally wait about a month or so after an update appears before I go ahead and update my version. I do this to see what kinds of bugs or problems others experience first before I jump in.....
Also, I'm sure you're probably using a good backup plugin, but for anyone reading this who isn't, you should be - it's important (and smart) to always do a backup first just before updating, just in case you have problems and need to restore from your backup. Knock on wood I've never had to, but Karma can sometimes be a mean b***h and it's when you're not prepared, and don't have a backup, that you'll need it.

Thanks Trisha, I will wait a while before updating.
You're so right about needing a backup when you don't have one. I use the backup plugin you mentioned above, so that should be okay.
