I've been thinking lately about young adult writing. I don't see why I couldn't marry travel writing with young adult writing. Vampires, werewolves, magic, witches, etc...usually have ties to destinations such as the UK, Salem, MA, etc...What you think about combining the two genres? It would be a great way to teach young people about the destinations I visited.

This is an interesting idea.......
I would never say that it can't work, but I don't know that you'd actually be able to achieve a cross-genre classification....
Generally speaking, travel writing is considered such because the destination plays an important part in the story - in some cases, to the extent that the story would not work if you took it out of its setting....
Most young adult literature can be placed in almost any setting - what works about it is the characters and their interaction and how well they appeal to young adults. So while it's quite true that many of those plot ideas can be enhanced by a setting such as Salem or London, if the story would work as well (or almost as well) set in Ft. Lauderdale or San Diego, or Shanghai, then I don't know that it could be also classified as travel literature.....
Unless you can make the destination an equal (or almost equal) character in the story - that would be a challenge.
But I vote to give it a try - you never know what is going to appeal to readers, especially young adults - if you know someone who is between 12 and 20, ask their opinion on your synopsis.

Thanks for the advice. I'll ask my niece and nephew what they think about this. Also, I'll get feedback from their friends.
