   Hey,

   I have made some changes to my landingpage and have now managed to show excerpts of my five latest posts in a row below each other (don't know why I couldn't manage that before, but nevermind...).
   It does, however, now all look a bit empty, as I haven't got any picts in my excerpts. I have tried to get a (thumbnail) picture in the excerpt, but can't find out how to do it. Is there a sollution for this in WP, or do I have to look at the theme options?
   I have tried both, but nothing works.

   I hope someone can help.

   Hmmm...sounds like a techie issue. I'm sure Trisha knows the answer. There could be a plugin in WP or maybe check the settings on your theme.

   Wow I'm sorry I missed this! There are some plugins that will do this, or you can customize your Home page, however, you'll have to choose a specific photo to be a thumbnail, because your post photos tend to be randomly sized which doesn't always lend itself well to thumbnails. Of course you can try it anyway and see how it looks.

   You might try looking for a theme that does display a thumbnail photo with the list of recent posts on the home page and then just copy the "Loop" code from that theme's index.php file (or home.php if it uses that instead of index.php) and paste it into your Theme's index.php file - BUT that CAN give you unexpected results, so PLEASE backup your index.php file FIRST.

   I normally don't advise people to mess around with their theme files unless they are VERY comfortable with modifying HTML and/or CSS - in most cases, most people are far better off to find a theme that has all the features they want, or spend a little bit ($50 to $200) to have a custom theme developed.

   Thanks, Trisha. Yeah I need to find specific thumbnails, because as you said many of the picts I use in the post are not really suitable for that.
   My theme does give me the option to upload a thumbnail picture for each separate post, but somehow they still don't show in the excerpts.

   The theme has its own help forum, so I will post the question there as well. I might be doing something wrong that is actually very simple solve.

   You're right about warming people against fiddling with the code of their themes. I for one wouldn't try changing it. Wouldn't even know where to start...

   It's actually Wordpress that gives you the picture uploading options - full size, medium, and thumbnail. That is really just for uploading, so the photos are stored in your database at the right sizes and ready for use.

   If and how those photos are then used is part of the theme, so somewhere in your theme's template file where it displays the post (whether that's a full post or an excerpt), IF the theme is supposed to display an image, there would be an image tag that starts out with ~<img src= followed by the path to the photo. A really, truly beautifully designed theme will have a "plan b" - or what to display if there is no post photo, such as a stock image in the correct dimensions that says "no image available"....that at least keeps everything lined up nicely when there is no photo.

   I think since your Theme has it's own support forum, that's an excellent place to start. Someone there should be able to give you the correct snippet of code to paste into your theme template file.
