Thanks for the question...The answer is YES! Check out SEO Book. They have a SEO Community forums where you can find some excellent information on SEO. You could visit AWAI and check out their SEO copy writing course. I do not know too much about the program (a bunch of CDs), just what they send me in their newsletter. Personally, I would go for SEO Book because they have a forum, blog, and free SEO tools. It looks more user friendly and you receive help when you need it!
Being well versed in SEO will set you a part from other writers. WordPress is the popular choice among companies for their blog. However, some companies create their "own" program. The SEO skills you learn can be transferable to other blogging systems.
Here are some "quick" tips:
Use keywords and phrases -- Check out Google Keywords.
Understand how to use Tags and Meta Tags.
Create a unique headline; make sure the keyword you choose is in the headline.Good Luck!

Rebecca, thank you for the information on the available classes, but I'm afraid I'm not quite ready (or able) to fork out $1,200 or $495 for these classes.
Do you have any SEO books that you recommend? "SEO for Dummies" seemed to get quite a few positive reviews on Amazon... ($19.79 is a little bit more in-line with my budget!)

Check out Yaro Starak's website. Scroll down and on the right hand side, you'll see an Articles Archive section. Take a look at the articles under Search Engine Optimization and Search Marketing . Just to let you know, this is a very "busy" website. I have a graphic design background so I have a tendency to look at websites from an artistic angle.
As you mentioned "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" sounds like a good book. The book that stands out to me is "Search Engine Optimization: Your visual blueprint for effective Internet marketing." This is a book that I would purchase. It goes beyond SEO and has information on social media, marketing analytics, and much more. Plus, the book has screenshots. This is helpful if you're a "visual" person.
Check out "Building Findable Websites: Web Standards SEO and Beyond." This looks like it would be a useful book. You can find these books on Amazon.com
I hoped this helped...

I'm learning that there's more to travel writing. If your goal is to write for newspapers & magazines then you'll learn the ropes of these publications. Writing for the web is a different animal. I'm finding this out.

Thanks from me too for the book suggestions! Now if I only can get through the other 50 books on my list about writing, travel writing, and everything else...
