Yes, I believe you can make a living from travel writing. No one says that you must travel all over the world. You can start by writing about what is in your backyard. Take baby steps.
Many people will be starting their own businesses in 2009 and in years to come. People have been let down by corporate bureaucracy and the government, and they will begin to create their own businesses. It is said that many millionaires were made during the Great Depression. If those people could create businesses in the early part of the 20th century, you can do it today. The question is do you really want to or would you rather work for someone else?

Memberekm, I can offer this advice to you; start taking risks. I can understand how you feel about being trapped, sometimes we feel suffocated by our own comfort zones. Do you work at the moment? If you work full-time then it can be easy to fall into a routine. My advice would be to start taking risks at work which involve your passions (writing, travelling, cooking, etc) as not only will this make work more enjoyable, but also help you to realise your passions/dreams in life.
