I'd like to self-publish my travel writing. Got ideas for a couple of guidebooks and perhaps some other books. Has anyone self-published books? Share your experiences, would appreciate it. Thanks!

I haven't self-published, but I think about it. It will take patience because you're responsible for everything from writing to marketing. Some people have been known to drive around with their books in the trunk of their car and sell them. Others will use Cafe Press (www.CafePress.com). You can sell your products on this site just like you can on Amazon.com. Have the time, endurance, patience, and marketing savvy? Go for it!

Hello Ralphz!
As a travel writer myself, I've managed to do a couple of self-publishing on a few platforms. One of them can be found at GuideGecko travel guide publishing platform
I had a couple of good experiences with online self-publishing on the web, because I could choose your my layout for the book I intended to publish. Of course, not all e-book publishers allow this. Another good experience I had with self-publishing my travel writing was the neglible to zero cost
since I just had to convert my works to PDF. Of course, part of my self-publishing experience has some minor drawbacks as well self-publishing... so thanks to thanks to Rebecca for sharing the link on Cafepress.com! Looks like a viable way to share and market your own work indeed! So far the platform i've recommended has been successful in taking away my pain and burden of self-marketing. No that I mind it actually... but sometimes, leveraging on a platform can be SO MUCH more effective and strenous!
Yup, good luck in publishing your own travel guides and travel writing articles!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Maybe I could get some friends involved to help me self-publishing, at least from the marketing perspective of it!

Hello Ralphz,
No worries! Glad to be of help. I'm happy that I learnt something from this thread too. If I find anything relevant about the marketing perspective on self-publishing travel writing or guides, I'll be sure to post something here.

I also use GuideGecko for my travel guides. The process isn't that difficult, and if I have any questions, Daniel is very quick to respond with helpful advice. I would recommend them if you're going to self-publish. As far as I'm concerned, self-publishing is the only way to go.
