Does anyone have any suggestions on how to search for publications? What do you do? Or do you submit to the standard publications like National Geographic, Travel+Leisure, etc...Thanks!
How do you search for publications to submit pitches?

I've been doing Google and Amazon.com searches which has been helpful. Type in what it is your looking for, i.e., travel writing and peruse the magazines that you'd be interested in writing for. Good luck!

Hi Angela
That depends upon whether you're looking to submit to online magazines or offline (traditional print) magazines.
If you're talking about print publications, spend some time at a local library (or a very large bookstore or other magazine distribution outlet) and buy a copy of every travel magazine you can find. Naturally you could just write down what you need (submission guidelines) but you'll want to read them all the way though to find out what they like to publish.
I'm not yet seeing anyone doing the online magazine model well, but you should still submit to them. Try searching for specific keywords that describe your primary focus followed by the word "magazine", for example, search for "italy magazine" or "cruising magazine" or "backpacking magazine".....you should be able to turn up plenty of online publications to submit to, and likely even a good number of travel niche blogs to which you can offer a guest post.
