I'm back!
I'd like to know ... how can volunteering help me with travel writing? Hopefully, it could help me get a job and figure out what I really want to do. College can only do so much. Thanks for your input.

Doing some volunteering to figure out what you realy want to do is a good idea. It will also give you loads of experience in different fields.
If you want to travel and do volunteering (and consequently write about that) you could register as a WWOOFer (Willing Worker On Organic Farms) or just start travelling, find some place you like and find a volunteer job there for a couple of months. I did the latter and ended up as a long-stayer in a youth hostel, volunteering in an office of a nature organisation in Perth Australia and I helped setting up displays in a museum in Chirstchurch NZ. Both 'jobs' would have been great to blog about.
Good luck.
It can help you a lot. You gain valuable skills and you learn about various corporations and industries. Plus, you'll learn about other cultures and may learn to speak a couple of languages. Some companies look for bi-lingual candidates.
