I'd like to know ... how can volunteering help me with travel writing? Hopefully, it could help me get a job and figure out what I really want to do. College can only do so much. Thanks for your input.
How can volunteering in the world help with travel writing?

Doing some volunteering to figure out what you realy want to do is a good idea. It will also give you loads of experience in different fields.
If you want to travel and do volunteering (and consequently write about that) you could register as a WWOOFer (Willing Worker On Organic Farms) or just start travelling, find some place you like and find a volunteer job there for a couple of months. I did the latter and ended up as a long-stayer in a youth hostel, volunteering in an office of a nature organisation in Perth Australia and I helped setting up displays in a museum in Chirstchurch NZ. Both 'jobs' would have been great to blog about.Good luck.

It can help you a lot. You gain valuable skills and you learn about various corporations and industries. Plus, you'll learn about other cultures and may learn to speak a couple of languages. Some companies look for bi-lingual candidates.
