I'm interested in knowing if anyone has flown a budget carrier. I'd like to take trip somewhere, but I'd also like to keep my costs low. Many Thanks...
Have you flown a budget carrier?

Fly then all the time in Europe, and here have flown SouthWest and about to fly Allegiant, of whom we've been told good things by people who use them regularly. No problems, and with some you hardly notice the difference between them and scheduled airlines, though the general policy of not assigning seat numbers can result in a free-for-all when you board. Not with SouthWest, who assign you a boarding group, which works pretty well.

It really depends on where you're going - many of the truly "budget" carriers only operate in small regions, or fly into/out of smaller secondary/tertiary airports, so your choices can be limited.
And while you certainly can save $$ by flying on one, you still have to read all the fine print and watch out for the extra fees, which add up quickly to the point that you can wind up paying as much as if you'd flown on a major airline.
Case in point is Southwest - I love them now that they've made their seating process easier, and I stay loyal to them ONLY because they don't charge for checked baggage. Often their rates are very close to the other airlines so I wouldn't call them "budget", but they save me money in other ways like not having to pay to check a bag, or to change a ticket on the rare occasions that I need to....
Outside of that, all airlines must comply with safety laws, so for me the only issues are a) do they fly where I need to go, and b) when all costs are accounted for, are they really saving me money (or enough for any small inconvenience, like transportation to/from a smaller airport)....
