Any tips on how to travel "green?" Is this an area that will experience growth for the years to come?

As far as tips go, here are some...
1. Recycle whenever you travel.
2. Do you best to purchase products made from recycled materials.
3. Bring a reusable water bottle vs. buying bottled water (depends on the country).
4. Take road trips vs. flying all around the world (if you can).
5. Find "green" hotels and resorts or hostels. They will have recycling programs and things like that.
6. Walk or take public transportation.
7. If you stay in a hotel, do you best not to use the air conditioning or just put it on at night.
8. If you take a cruise, better investigate it. I just watched a report about how cruise lines are allowed to dump their wastes into our oceans. It was an eye-opener.Green travel growth...I think it will be a popular area. There are many volunteer programs available that are involved in environmental and conservation efforts. I have looked in to a few programs in Malaysia and China. I love nature and animals and would like to do what I can to sustain their environment and ours.
My views of travel have changed since I watched a couple of programs on Earth day. I could not believe the amount of garbage that expands from California to Japan. Plus, I was not aware that cruise lines are allowed to dump things in our oceans. I now look at travel in a different light. Hope this helped...

Green travel will continue to grow. As people become more aware of what is happenings to our planet, they will do what they can to preserve the Earth.
You could find a "green travel writing" niche. Perhaps you focus solely on backpacking or volunteer travel that focuses on environmental concerns. Maybe you are on a mission to go across America and collect as many water bottles you can and recycle them.

Did anyone see Oprah's April 28 episode? She had Ed Bagley, Jr. and his wife on her show. His wife decided to fly to Chicago, but Ed stayed at home. He's a real advocate of going green. He has a show, but I can't think of the name right now.
It would be worth a shot to contact Ed and his show...You never know where it'll lead.

It's called "Living With Ed".......and it's a good show! i watch it on occasion.
That actually could be a very interesting travel niche to write about.......you'd have to do as Ed does and "walk the walk" - he wouldn't fly because of the carbon emissions from the airplane, and I respect that.
Unless you want to stay close to home, though, there are only a few other ways to get around - some trains are now electric, and smaller sailing vessels rely primarily on wind power (using engines only sparingly). You could bicycle across a continent, or even hitchhike (hey the car that stops to give you a ride was going in that direction anyway)......but even if you choose to fly somewhere, there are many other things you can do to lessen your impact on the planet and its resources, and write about it!
