I have almost finished a travel book (about 80.000 words)and obviously would like to see it published. I am based in Europe and have bought the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2010, which gives loads of info about how to get published, finding agents and lists with addresses of both.
Nowhere does it say, however, if it is OK for me to contact more publishers/agents at once. It clearly says that it can take a publisher/agent months to reply, so it seems handier to me to send enquiry letters to more than one. Thereby having more chance to get a reply from at least one of them.
Is that OK for me to do?
Have any of you experience with finding an agent?

I believe it's all right to send more than one letter. I haven't found an agent, but I know I would not go with the first one I met. I want to know what my options are, be comfortable with the person/publishing house, and make sure I'm legally protected. This is my opinion. I'd also make sure I have a good lawyer as well.

Hi Dutchie - welcome to the forum!
I agree with Rebecca - it's perfectly acceptable to send out letters to as many agents as you would like to, after all, it's YOUR choice of whom to hire as an agent, so you'll want to investigate many of them.
Here is a link to a great post on what questions you should ask to help you narrow down your choices and find the right agent for you:

I'm pretty sure a few other forum members are also book authors, so hopefully one or more of them will chime in with some more advice and resources for you.
Good luck with your book!

Thanks for your quick reply.
The link has indeed some great info on what to do.A friend of mine who is a published fiction writer has introduced me to his agent, but I will sent enquiries to more agents to get an idea of the possiblities, as his agent doesn't really deal with travel books.
