Hi! I recently joined a Meetup group in my area and they offered a "class" on Facebook and blogging (WordPress). It was a lot to take in for a short amount of time.

How imperative is it to use keywords in your blogs? Is it necessary to use all widgets and plugins (someone mentioned these)? The gal running the class said that she "just blogs" and doesn't worry about all the "bells and whistles" that can be used with a WordPress blog. She doesn't really focus on keywords, but uses some keywords. She told us that her blog receives steady traffic even though she just started the blog. By the way, she's not in travel -- she's in real estate.

I thought you want to use keywords. The gal stressed the need for content (good) on your site. She told us that Google would like to see "100 pages" on your site in order to give you a good ranking. Oh, and she incorporates a YouTube video on her blog -- she records while she's driving and then she adds the text later. I don't think that's a safe way to do a video, but that's just me.

Any thoughts on all of this. I read this forum and do my best to participate, but now I think I'm more confused.

Well...I've been studying/researching SEO and everything related to it for over a year now. Of course, things change. I say to use keywords. Yes, you want content on your site, but it must UNIQUE and good content. Readers will not come to your site if there's no relevant information. Incorporating videos and podcasts are a good idea. I get a "sense" that the gal who was teaching the class wanted people to know that it's all right to take baby steps. That's what I did. I started with WordPress.com (free) and then progressed to WordPress.org and then went to Weebly.com (I still use WordPress). Each program offers something unique -- especially if you're not a web designer.

I suggest that you start with WordPress.com and just blog. Don't worry about all of the "bells and whistles" that make up a website. Once you become comfortable with blogging, add a video, and so on. If you need help, ask the gal from your Meetup group and visit this forum for great information. You'll get there....Hope this helped!

It's a great idea to incorporate a video into your blog...it will break it up. I noticed that some people also have different sized pictures on their site. If you're a designer, you may want to have a larger picture to show-off the design -- change up your blog -- make it interesting!

I heard about video blogs. I always thought it was better to have a "text" blog. Maybe I'll try to incorporate video into my blog. It would be great to do a two minute video about my travels. It would make the blog more interesting. I guess I'll create a YouTube account.

If you're planning to travel across America in an RV, you can create a video blog of your travels. Sounds like it would be a lot of fun. You can capture moments inside and outside of the RV. If do some fishing, you can record and then write about it (give fishing tips). I might do this.
