   Hi guys,

   I was wondering if any of you have any experience with making your site/blog bilingual. My site will be in English, but as some of my family and friends don't speak English that well, I was thinking of making it biligual.
   With that I don't mean the google thingy that can translate a site. That works, but as it directly translates English into Dutch it isn't much good. (Very funny, though...)

   I was thinking more of a plugin that enables my site to be read by visitors in either English or Dutch, by clicking on a little English or Dutch flag.

   Are people familiar with a plugin like that? Does it works? Does it slow the site up?
   I'd love to find out more about it.

   Hi Maria,

   I do not have direct experience but have had several friends use translation plugins. Most were unhappy when they discovered the quality of the translation was not very good. The one who has kept using the plugin uses it for 11 languages including Chinese and Japanese citing, "It's better than nothing."

   I think until the technology improves, you might be better off hand translating each post for accuracy.

   Thanks Devin,

   From what I have seen of translation plugins they were indeed not very good. I have seen one that translated English into Dutch in a very clumsy, but hilarious, way. Unfortunately it would distract too much from what I was trying to say...

   I will have to delve deeper into the subject of transforming my site into a proper bilingual site. One that had English as default, but has a clickable 'button' that brings up the Dutch site (which of course I will have written myself as well). I have not found a way to do this yet.

   Like you say, Devin, until I do I will translate my posts and put the Dutch text at the bottom of each post below the English text. Not ideal, but it will have to do for now.

   Good luck Maria,

   I was doing a Spanish section for a little while, but all the links were hand coded with a little Spanish flag that linked just the Spanish article and not an entire mirror site and it worked well, but still the actual translations was a big job.
