Rebecca has some great suggestions. I also advocate keeping it short, but I'd go even shorter than Rebecca suggests, and advise you to keep them to no more than 5 minutes.

People have very short attention spans these days, due primarily to our being trained by YouTube, combine this with how busy everyone is and you'll find that folks just won't watch anything longer online (TV is different, folks still expect half-hour shows there).

I also suggest breaking your films up into easy to digest segments - don't try to do one film to cover all your travels, unless it's just for your friends and family. If you really want to get viewers, do short segments on specific places.

And narration is good, people like to also hear about what they're seeing. If you really want your films to be professional, hire someone with a good voice to do your narration.

Good luck - sounds like it will be a fun project - we'd love to see the results!

Well, if you're writing a short film, make sure it's no more than 20 minutes -- 30 minutes is pushing it. A short film is usually 1 minute - 15 minutes long. You can have dialogue or no dialogue. Perhaps you'd like to have a monologue. Whether or not you decide to write it out like a screenplay or just "jot" it down on a piece of paper, make sure there's a beginning (ACT I), middle (ACT II), and end (ACT III). Hope this helps...

Got an idea for a short film about my travels. Anyone know how to write short films? Not sure if I want dialogue, just action, or a monologue. Thanks for your help.
