The gap-year guide book is published annually, with the latest of which set for release in November. I am keen to increase the amount of editorial in the guide, as there really is nothing more helpful than personal experience, especially when it comes to volunteering or completing a placement of somesort. Any good pieces, would be added to our website, and considered for the 2013 edition. If you are a writer, who has enjoyed (or not as the case may be!) a lengthly time away, and would like to put their pieces forward, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Likewise, if you have some stunning photographs from your time away, enter them into our rolling competition - again, these will be added to the site and then considered for the guidebook itself. The last winner, made his way on to the cover no less. We pride ourselves on offering useful, informative and unbiased advice, no matter the age of the traveller, or the aim of their time away.

Please, be in touch with any questions - editor@gap-year.com

Hi gogypsy - welcome to our Forum! I hope you'll find some useful information in the past Posts we have on the site, or conversation threads in this Forum.

Feel free to ask any questions, but please keep in mind that the Forum is for questions/answers related to writing, not travel, travel sales, or destinations. I'm sure you can understand that our goal is to *not* promote any particular travel seller or destination. Occasionally we do feature reviews of travel products, but typically only when they would be useful to a travel writer.

Good luck with your new venture!

Hello everyone, I just learned about this site and decided to join. I have a Home-based travel agency, where I plan itineraries for my clients, I have traveled extensively. and photography is my hobby. I decided last year to start writing travel articles, which I have done for different online sites.

Hey Jamil.
I am also not a native English speaker. The best way I have found to improve my English is to simply do lots of writing and lots of reading. At first the English in your blogs might be a bit shaky, but that shouldn't be a problem if you are intent on improving.
And your future target audience might also not be fluent in English, so they will understand that you are still learning.
It might be an idea to invest in an really good English dictionary. One that gives English words with English explanation. That way you can check words that you don't know and learn to find alternatives for them, thereby building up your vocabulary.
It is my experience that you only get better when you practise a lot, so I would say start writing! <img src="http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/Forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

Good Luck!

To improve your English, you could listen to American television or watch shows on the internet. Of course, language courses couldn't hurt. Perhaps there are economical courses that are offered in your country or you could find someone to help you.

As for getting proofreading for free or cheap, you could try college students or try a barter exchange program.

Hello all, I am Jamil from Bangladesh. I don't think i am a newbie still. just introduced late. Sorry about that.
The problem i am facing is that i am not a native English speaking person. This is why i can't turn myself into a professional writer. Do you have any suggestion for me how do i overcome this. At this age i don't want to be encouraged to undergo some language learning training and thus be discouraged to write something. The target readers of my blogs(future) are expected to be students from the hungry part of the world. But still i have to use English to communicate. How can i get the proof reading service at a very cheap rate or for free would you please tell me. I am ready to be part of a team which can ask my service to do things like rewriting or anything possible and in return i get some of my writing proof read.
thanks
jamil

Hi Matthew - that's a really good question! I can't speak for either the UK or Australia, but I know that here in the US it depends only on where your "company" (in this case your website) is located.

To be certain that you pay correctly, I'd strongly encourage you to consult with a tax expert in the UK, since that is where you are a citizen and full-time resident, even if you happen to be presently traveling abroad. Since the revenue is earned by your website, it shouldn't matter where you are, but where your website is domiciled, but an expert in UK tax matters will be able to tell you definitively.

I'd be interested in hearing whatever you find out!

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone out there can help me.

As you can see from previous posts, I am a UK resident and am currently travelling Australia. I have a travel blog and it has advertising on it. If and when the adverts generate some income, where do I pay my tax, in the UK or in Australia? Also, I am planning to travel Europe next and will have the same issue there I assume.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks in advance
