Check with the Recreation Department of the city you live in. That's what I did. I went online and filled out an application to teach. There needs to be enough interest to run a class. Unfortunately, my travel writing class didn't run but my Life SKills for Teens and Blogging and SEO classes ran. I had a lot of fun teaching, it was a great experience.

I love sharing my knowledge with others and have been told I'd make a great teacher. How could I teach others how to become travel writers or about travel writing? Thanks!

Hi BillieJean

I'm currently taking the MatadorU travel writing course (thanks Rebecca for posting the link to our interview!).....it's definitely a good course and I'm really enjoying it, so I'm very comfortable recommending it to other travel writers.

MediaBistro (see Rebecca's link above) is also a good source for online travel writing courses, but I haven't tried any of them (yet). I do plan to so that I can eventually do a comparison between them.

Another forum member (ChinaGuide) commented in this post about the AWAI travel writing course:
http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/Forum/topic/what-does-the-awai-course-include-how-useful-is-it

According to her, the course seems to be good but the support is lacking. That's one thing that MatadorU excels at, as their forum is very active and supportive, with everyone offering very good, constructive feedback.

If I find information on other online travel writing courses, I'll post it here.

Check out the interview with David Miller from Matador University. Here's the link http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/2009/09/interview-david-miller-from-matadoru/

They have a great program that's online and it's not that expensive. You may want to visit Media Bistro because they have online courses as well...here's the link http://www.mediabistro.com/courses/default.asp?floc=15&fsdi=False&fcrm=False&page=1&plen=100

Was thinking about taking an online travel writing course. Has anyone taken any online courses? I would appreciate any feedback on courses. Thanks!

Just logged on, funny! Try you local bookstores because sometimes they'll offer writing classes. Instructors from local universities looking to make extra cash will teach classes either at bookstores (if they allow it) or adult education classes. The prices ranges from $25+, it depends on the instructor and length of class. Don't discount online courses. It's a virtual classroom, you still connect with people.

I'd like to take some travel writing courses, but I don't want to spend a ton of cash. Any suggestions.

Hi Sarah:

Trisha suggested I give my take on this. I actually haven't completed the course...yet. I started this course awhile ago and should be finished it by now. But, I got distracted. I have started the course over. The first time I was just reading and not doing the assignments. This time I am taking the time to actually do the assignments and it seems to be working!! The course I think is a good foundation. However, their forum is lacking. Travel Writing is one of many programs that they sell. It seems like the copy-writing forum gets a lot of activity, while the travel writing course gets very little. It can be months before you get a response. Let me know if you need anything else? I'd be happy to answer any question that you may have on the course, the best that I can.

Hi Sarah - that's hard for me to answer because I haven't taken their course, but I do know someone else who has, so I'll ask her to post her opinion.
