That's good to know. I was thinking about doing the same so this topic also answers my question. Thanks all <img src="http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/Forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />

If you have the time, definitely do a road trip and remember, the journey is always the best part of any trip.

Whether you being on the east coast, the deep south or the Texas pandhandle, you will definitely awe-struck by the sights. I'm a history buff so I can find a little bit of history tucked away in any spot I find.

I hope you have a great trip.

I recommend a road trip. The U.S. is a very diverse country, and if you go by car, you have more of an opportunity to appreciate what it has to offer.

I never heard of it but it sounds very intriguing. Going green and eco tourism is very big right now and will probably continue to grow.

So much depends on how much time you have. For the last two years, we've driven from Milwaukee to Los Angeles and prefer it to flying.

You will definitely meet more interesting people and have a new appreciation for the size, beauty and diversity of the United States by driving.

In 2009, we made the trip in a van and stuck to an Irish-American Roadtrip theme. In 2010, we were traveling via RV and the trip was more about art and craft shows and our jewelry business.

Irish-American Roadtrip Videos, Audio and Blog Posts

Posts from the 2010 Trip

I must say, bringing your house with you via an RV is an amazing experience!

Wow - I don't know if I could do without even a very small overnight bag or day pack - I think most women just need a little more "stuff" than guys do - I can do without makeup but there's no way I could take a trip of more than a week without at least travel-size containers of my favorite hair and skin care products, and while I COULD wash my undies out at night and let them dry while I sleep, that COULD cause problems if there's ever a fire or some other emergency in the middle of the night!

Also I'd REALLY miss my laptop. <img src="http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/Forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

A few times when I was in high-school and then again just after, I did some hitchhiking to get around.

For the most part I still believe that it's safe to hitchhike unless you're a female traveling alone, then I don't think it's wise. But for guys or couples the likelihood of trouble is very low.

I do occasionally stop and pick up someone who is hitchhiking, but it really depends on the situation and time of day, how much other traffic there is, etc.

It would be a challenge for some folks to travel without luggage. Perhaps they could take 'baby steps' and travel with a carry-on and then travel without luggage!

I think I could probably manage it, but I would shove a toothbrush and and tube of toothpaste into the backpocket of my jeans. Can't do without them! <img src="http://www.travel-writers-exchange.com/Forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />
