Hi Laura Writers Dream Kit is designed to help you structure a story, as well as to develop both plot and characters, but it doesn't really help with the writing basics. If that's what you're looking for, you might give Whitesmoke a try (they have a free trial, and you can read our two-part review of it here: Whitesmoke Review - Part 1 and Whitesmoke Review - Part 2 of it as well) - OR you could check a local community college to see if they offer a beginning writer's course.
