Hi RalphZ - I agree that often what our government chooses to spend money on seems pretty senseless, and you make a great point, but to be fair we rely on the FTC to protect consumers, and the new FTC Guidelines are intended for that purpose.

While at first glance it may not make sense to regulate bloggers, I do believe that consumers have a right to know when they are reading a review or testimonial that is possibly influenced by compensation. I think it's important to note that the new FTC Guidelines are primarily aimed at those who market products and use testimonials and endorsements of that product that may have been paid for, but it just so happens that the wording does encompass any (blogger) content that is sponsored or compensated.

It's about giving consumers the ability to make informed purchasing decisions, and I'm in favor of that, so in this instance, I don't mind our tax dollars being spent on this. :)

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sure glad my tax dollars are being spent on things like the FTC spending time to look at bloggers websites, their posts, what they're writing about, and if they're making money from their blog posts. Did the government ever resolve the Wall Street, AIG, and housing fiasco? How's our educational system looking? What about health care reform? Oh, that's right, they're probably still at the spa and spending their bonuses!
