I do have a dream of purchasing a flat in Edinburgh -- it will happen. The Elephant House is located on George IV Bridge off of the Royal Mile. I knew about The Elephant House before I went back to Edinburgh in Aug. 2007. Very cool vibe. Thanks for the food-writing.com link. (I don't even remember seeing it, but did enjoy some time in a few others cafes and pubs.) I highly recommend travel writers signing up for the newsletter at www.food-writing.com. Pam offers great articles, links, and writing opportunities, specifically geared towards food writing, and mentions travel writing often. I also have one of her books and have appreciated it's lessons and helpful links.
