Leave the Writing to Someone Else — Record Your Travel Articles

Updated: Mar 21st, 2010

Travel writing can take up a lot of time. After all, there’s the traveling portion of it followed by the writing. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find someone else to write your travel articles? Ok, you probably do not want to do this all of the time, but it could give you a break. You never know, you could find a fabulous writer like yourself. Together you can create beautiful travel articles.

Now the concept of of recording your travel articles may sound like a “novel” idea and some die-hard travel writers may not be open to it. What if it will save you time? How about if it’s simple and fast? If you’re inundated with a ton of writing, you may consider giving this idea a chance. It’s a great marketing strategy for your article marketing.

Why will it work?

  1. Not a strong travel writer, no problem. If you’re not a strong writer, all you have to do is speak into a mic. This takes care of your writing, for now. All though, you’ll probably want to hone your writing skills. It will be a great benefit to you.

Try Whitesmoke’s free trial and improve your writing today. This writing software can take you to the top in no time!

  2. Writer’s block will disappear. Forget about writer’s block because you’ll be speaking into a mic. Let the words flow.
  3. Your voice is unique. Speaking about a subject it’s different from writing about it. Give it a try. Write a short travel article and then speak about it. Compare the differences.
  4. Time saver. Outsource the transcribing and editing of your articles.
  5. Speed and leverage. How long does it take you to write an article? If it takes you one hour to write an article, you’ll be amazed by the number of articles you can get from one hour of speaking.

Quick Steps to Recording

  1. Hold a mic to your computer and record your travel article. This will require software. Check out Audacity for your recording needs.
  2. Speak for about 30-90 minutes. This is plenty of time for you to speak. If you go over do not worry about it. FYI: most tele-seminars last for 60-90 minutes.
  3. To save your file use .WAV (PC) or .AIFF (MAC). Make sure to name your file so you’ll know what it is. For example, 12-10-2008_BermudaAdventureTrip_Your Name.WAV.
  4. Save your file as a MP3 after it has been archived. This will make it easier when you send it off to your transcriber service. Most services charge $60-100 per hour for each transcription.
  5. Create articles of 400-700 words from your transcription. Now you’re ready to create your travel articles.

You may think recording your travel articles will take a lot of time, but if you’re a full-time travel writer, it could save you time in the long run. If you’re a very successful travel writer the money you spend on the transcription service may be worth it.

Recording your travel articles is a creative way to approach your travel writing. Who knows, you may discover a hidden talent and become a travel journalist for your local television station.
