Travel Writers Develop Important Writing Habits

Updated: Mar 23rd, 2010

Travel writers, do you have a daily writing routine? Even if you work a full-time or part-time job in addition to writing travel, you could use a routine.

If you’re a full-time travel writer, a routine can help you to stay on your travel writing path. Yes, being a travel writer can be different from being a regular copy writer, but you still could use good habits.

Do you write for travel websites? Let’s say you’re a travel writer for an organization and you blog about the UK. It’s critical to your success to have a routine in order for you to write your daily posts. Will you write in the morning or afternoon? They say it’s best to write in the morning when your “mind” is fresh. However, if you’re a night owl, you may want to write your posts ahead of time. Just make sure this is all right with your client.

Developing good writing habits can launch your travel career in travel writing in no time. Here are a few routines that you could follow to ensure you complete your work for the day.

Routine #1

  1. Awake between 6 am and 7 am
  2. Look at what is on your agenda for the day
  3. Work out (try to get some exercise)
  4. Eat breakfast
  5. Shower and put on different clothes!
  6. Begin to write

Routine #2

  1. Awake between 6 am and 7 am
  2. Look over your writing agenda for the day/li>
  3. Write for three hours straight
  4. Take a break
  5. Write for the next three hours

Now, you may be thinking to yourself that a routine sounds dull and boring. You may want to rethink this, especially if you’re a newbie travel writer. Having a routine or schedule can transform you into a stellar travel writer, especially if you write everyday!

What happens if you work a full-time or part-time job in addition to writing travel? No, problem. When you come home from work, relax, get something to eat, and then write! If you can only write for 15 minutes or one hour a day that’s better than not writing at all! The key is to write!

Habits of Travel Writing

  1. Write each day. This is critical to your success as a travel writer. You may want to Get WhiteSmoke’s All-In-One writing solution. Special Spring Promotion -25% Discount for a LIMITED TIME ONLY! CLICK HERE so you can “write better, right now.”
  2. Set realistic goals for yourself. If you think that you’ll be able to write for three or more hours when you have a full-time job, you’ll be setting yourself up for failure. Start with 15-20 minutes each day and build from there. However, if you feel you can write for at least one hour each day, go for it!
  3. What time of day do you write best? Morning? Afternoon? Night? Establish your routine around the time when your “mind” is sharp.

If you’re an aspiring or experienced travel writer, set up a daily writing routine if you want to take your writing to the next level. Make sure your routine works for you. The examples given are to be used as guidelines. What matters the most is that you establish and stick with a writing routine.

  1. “The Key is to Write”. You could not have said it any better. The only way to improve and write articles similar to writers that we admire is to just write.

This article has been an eye opener. I have been having a huge problem with writing on a daily basis.

I prefer routine 2 but I think I’m going to start at 30 minutes and work my way up to 3 hours.

I will update you on my status.
