Help Wanted! Have You Been Disappointed by Travel Writing Opportunities?

Updated: Mar 28th, 2010

As a travel writer finding and holding onto travel writing opportunities can be a challenge. One minute opportunity knocks, the next minute it disappears into thin air. Stay calm and try not to fret over it. Losing an opportunity could be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps it was not meant to be because too much energy would be wasted on the project. Maybe a better opportunity is on the way to replace the one that was lost.

Travel writing can have its ups and downs. To pursue travel writing full-time, travel writers must have a deep love of traveling and writing. Dedication, patience, perseverance, and time are a travel writer’s friend. Some people have difficulty with patience. When people want something very badly, it can elude them. It’s like women who want to get pregnant so bad it consumes them day and night. Their mind says its time to have a baby but their body does not agree. It isn’t until women let go and surrender the dream of having children that they unexpectedly become pregnant.

The above scenario can be applied to travel writers. Thinking about travel writing day and night or opportunities that are lost is not productive. Travel writers, take a step back and reevaluate the situation. Yes, mourn any losses that occurred then do as Confucius once said “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do” and “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Keep these in mind the next time opportunity knocks but changes its mind. Have faith and stay strong!
